Bram Valkenborg
Biography
I graduated as a bioscience engineer on the topics agricultural and ecosystem engineering: forest, nature and landscape systems (KU Leuven). I dedicated my master thesis to remote sensing of peatlands, where I used fluorescence to detect waterlogging and drought stress in peatland vegetation.
Since October 2023 I started on my PhD at the Department of Geography and the Royal Museum for Central Africa. My research focuses on the spatial and temporal patterns of geo-hydro-hazards in Tropical Africa. Currently, landslides and floods are poorly documented in those regions. Through web scraping techniques we will try to complement information retrieved by remote sensing, in order to achieve a better documentation of these hazards.
