BeLux Interuniversity MAPATHON 2024, March 18-21
Assist Médecins Sans Frontières and the Red Cross in their humanitarian efforts
To respond swiftly and effectively to crisis situations, humanitarian organizations require accurate maps. In 2014, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and the Red Cross united to launch the Missing Maps project in collaboration with the OpenStreetMap Foundation. Globally, this initiative mobilizes volunteers to map regions facing the highest risks of natural disasters, epidemics, and conflicts.
This year, from March 18 to March 21, the Belgian National Committee of Geography presents the sixth edition of the Belgium-Luxembourg Interuniversity Mapathon event, in partnership with Doctors Without Borders (MSF/AZG) and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT). Numerous universities across Brussels, Flanders, Wallonia, and the University of Luxembourg will host a collective mapping endeavor. Will you contribute an hour or more? Don't miss this opportunity!
The Mapathon event at VUB will take place on Thursday, March 21 from 6-9 PM in Building E, level 1, rooms E1.2-E1.3-E1.4.
During the Mapathon, each participant will receive a computer with internet access. However, feel free to bring your own laptop and mouse if you prefer. That's all you need to start mapping as a volunteer—no prior experience required.
